Production

For the production stage of the film trailer, I edited the camera shots in the trailer together including adding overlay effects and manipulating images in Photoshop. I also brought the soundtrack and sound effects together.

The only thing I did not do when it came to the post-production of the trailer was the voice over.

First Day of Filming

The first day of filming was very productive and efficient thanks to our planning. However there were still times when shots did not go as smoothly as we would have liked. I have edited together a selection of bloopers onto a gag reel as behind the scenes footage for our first filming day.

Monday 11th December
First Day of Editing

Today I brought the first lot of footage we had filmed to edit. I did this by inserting the SD card from the DSLR camera into my MacBook Air and downloading all the footage into iMovie. Here is a few screenshots and videos of the beginning of the editing process.

The majority of filming that we had done over the weekend was for the first section of the trailer and so I was able to edit the shots in together with little blank spaces in between. This meant I was able t clearly see which shots fitted well together and which did not. For example we cut the shots of the coffee shop as it was difficult in terms of location and also there were already a lot of long shots followed by shot revers shots used in the first section. To keep things interesting and exciting, we filmed a few ambient shots such as the water droplets and tap running to add new shots and camera angles to the mix.

The Music

For the first section of the trailer I wanted a calm but suspenseful soundtrack to fit the eerie tone of the film. I used the website Incomptech to find and listen to a bunch of different scores and eventually settled on Shadowlands 1 Horizon being the best option. You can hear a snippet of the score in the video above that shows the initial editing process. Here are a few screenshots of me using the website and inserting the music.

The Intertitles

Here are some other attempts I took in created the logo for our film. I am still wondering as to whether the added water effect might distract the audience from the information so it is something I am considering leaving out.

Saturday 6th January
Filming Day Two

Because of Christmas it became slightly harder to get everything filmed so we waited until the new year to film the rest of our footage. For this time filming we had to re take some shots such as the arial shot of Bea as the first time we did it was blurry. Here is the before and after shots of our re-filming. It is important that our shots are clear and in focus as otherwise they will not work well for our trailer and our audience will not understand what is going on.

Tuesday 8th January
Music Part Two

Now that I had edited the first 30 or so seconds of the sound track, I now needed to create the rest of it. The score now had to juxtapose the calm atmosphere created before to show the contrast in Bea's perspective before and how it has changed. Below I have inserted a presentation including a few screenshots of the process I took in creating the rest of the score for our trailer.

Monday 15th January
Rough Cut

The video below is a rough cut of our trailer with over two thirds of the filming done. At the moment there are a lot of blank spaces that are still to be filmed. However the main ideas and themes of our trailer can be seen in this rough cut.

The Production Process of the Film Magazine

When creating the film magazine front cover, I had to consider what magazine company I wanted to promote my film. Choosing the right company will allow for our film to be seen by our targeted demographic and if they are a big company, it could also increase the hype around the film thus increasing the likelihood of people wanting to go watch it. Below I have inserted a presentation on how I came to the decision to choose Total Film rather than other film magazine companies.

WHY I CHOSE TOTAL FILM by Eleni Papaioannou

Friday 9th February
Today I started using the planning I had undergone for my film magazine and poster into action by creating a draft film magazine (in a similar way to how I created a draft film poster) using Photoshop.

Below is a step by step presentation which I created using Photoshop as to how I edited and morphed the 'Total Film' logo to fit the house style of my film.

Here is a video showing the step by step process I took in creating my film magazine.

Monday 12th February
I wanted to make a start on creating my film poster background as I had planned to take the photos for both my magazine and film poster at a later date. Below I have inserted a presentation on how I created the background for my film poster.

Tuesday 13th February
Back to the Film Magazine

I liked the background that I had made for my film poster however I was afraid that it looked too different from the magazine so far:

To overcome this, I decided that I would experiment with placing the film poster background onto the magazine to see if this would help keep a continuity between the works. In this edit of my magazine, I also added some screenshots from the film trailer and made some other minor edits.

As you can see from the images above, I have added the same background but flipped it upside down so that the water is splashing upwards. I think by including this background on both texts I am ensuring that there is some continuity between my ancillary tasks despite the different styles of media.

Monday 19th February

Both Chloe and I have been focusing on creating our ancillary tasks and so we hadn't found a good date to film our third and final load of shots (these were mainly focusing on the ending of the trailer).
However today was the final day of filming and here are a few bloopers and out takes from the day.

Tuesday 20th February

Today I took the final image I needed for my film poster today which was an image of Tom. Now I was able to start (and finish) the full editing process for my poster.
